Morningside Farms
About Morningside Farms

Morningside Farms is Michigan’s foremost Kentucky Mountain and Rocky Mountain horse farm. Established over 15 years ago in Plymouth Michigan, we offer services of Mountain horse sales and boarding. Horses have always been a major part of our family. It was five years ago when we discovered this wonderful breed of horse, the Kentucky Mountain Horse. Since discovering this breed, it has become a passion of our family to own, train and sell Kentucky and Rocky Mountain Horses.

What others have to say about Morningside Farms:

            How I Bought My Horse

                                             (A True Story)

I’m a retired senior citizen. As a kid I rode horses, paying a mere $1.50 hourly rental at the local riding stable.  I spent many a Saturday and Sunday on horseback with absolutely no concept of what I was doing, but loving it.  I promised that one day I would have my own horse and learn to ride properly. Retirement, I thought, would be a great time to go ahead with my dream.
About 20 months ago I had a serious accident that badly damaged my leg and left me somewhat disabled. After spending many months in a wheelchair and enduring a good deal of physical therapy, I decided I could either stay at home and watch TV, or see if it was possible to get and ride the horse I always wanted.
I combed the horse ads and went on several trips around the state looking for my dream horse.
I had no idea what I was doing or looking for. I had people trying to sell me blind horses, and ones that weren’t broken, but, “would give me no problems.” Then one day, right before Christmas, I found an ad for Roman and read about Morningside Farms and their philosophy.  I went to see Roman and fell in love. I did not meet horse traders…I met horse lovers.  This family wasn’t arbitrarily going to sell me a horse and send me on my way.  Michael’s Mom, Aileen Michno, advised me to look at several more horses before I made any decision.  I did so, but came back to Morningside because they were honest, caring, and concerned for their horses and me.
Michael is a horse whisperer. He is a young man born to train…  gentle, but consistent, getting the best out of every horse he works with.
I am now taking lessons with Michael on my new best friend, Roman. We’ve had to find innovative ways to get me on and off, but Roman is such a gentle soul he tolerates it all. Michael and Aileen have taught me so much about caring for him. I’ve certainly gotten much, much more than a horse.
Thank Heaven there are people like the Michno family, and a place like Morningside Farms. Had Michael and his wonderful Mother and Dad not come into my life when they did, there is potential I could now have a wild mustang chasing my dog around my little suburban backyard.

I recommend that anyone interested in purchasing a horse should visit
Morningside Farm and Mike Michno to find the perfect match!

We purchased Mike's Lemon Joy, a spotted mountain horse, from Mike in Nov.
2007.  With just a few months of work with Mike in the saddle, Lemon Joy
went from a generally un-ridden horse to a first in show with Mike in the
saddle:  Trail Pleasure Class, Kentucky, and Oct. 2007.
Mike is a true horse whisperer.  He has a calm, gentle approach with horses
and people alike.  He directs his focus on training horses to be the best
they can be under saddle as well as enabling the horses to exhibit good
ground manners, easy loading in trailers and standing for the farrier.  Mike
has a special talent for working with horses and bringing out the best in
each horse.
He is geared to matching the right horse with the right owner.  This takes
time and patience which is a virtue Mike possesses.  These qualities are
necessary when choosing a long term companion, pet, and trail or show horse.
Mike did not rush me into choosing or purchasing a horse.  I rode several
horses and we even took several horses to a near-by park to ride for the day
before making the decision to purchase Lemon Joy.  Mike and his whole family
are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and insightful in helping you choose
the right horse for you.
Mike continues to offer support and knowledge about working with our horse
long after we have had her at our barn.  I can not say enough good things
about our experience with Mike and the Morningside Farm.
